Painting your nails is one of the easiest ways to update your look. For fall, the standout trend is bold colors — think non-traditional colors like navy, green or brown. As Elle points out, the nail art trend is waning (though not altogether gone). Libertine’s fall show was proof of that as models were sent down the runway with colorful bauble-laced manicures. And while you can never go wrong with a classic red or trusty nude, there are tons of options for spicing up your mani this season.
Let’s take a look at some of fall’s top nail colors and trends:
Keep it down to earth with a sassy green shade. You can opt for a mossy green like Zoya’s Shawn or go for a more royal look with an emerald green (I love Sea by RGB). Green is unexpectedly chic on nails — I picture it punching up a military-inspired ensemble (like the amazing jumpsuit Andrea recommended recently).
More versatile than black, but just as classic, navy is another way to capture fall’s bold color trend. The experts over at All Lacquered Up recommend Bobbi Brown’s limited-edition polish in New Navy. I’m a fan of Butter London’s Navy London shade. But my all-time favorite is OPI’s Russian Navy, which can verge on purple in certain light. It’s several seasons old, but you can find it on Amazon for less than $8.
My days of shamelessly reading Seventeen in public are far behind me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t still read it. The magazine says that “brown is the new black” and so it is so. Brown is also sure to be 9 to 5 friendly and offers plenty of options, from Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Ghost, a gorgeous iridescent brown, to Essie’s deep Chocolate Cakes.
4. The Deep V Mani
Call this an update to the half-moon mani. It’s a great option for fall because it’s both creative and work-appropriate. You can also work in fall’s bold color trend — opt for the gunmetal over olive look seen at Prabal Garung or use burgundy as a base with a gold-tinged triangle topper.
5. Graphic Print
Chanel’s fall 2013 manicure technically qualifies as a half-moon, but the print remixes the style something fierce. I could never replicate something this intricate on my own, but these funky NCLA nail wraps could point (heh) me in the right direction.
When it comes to nails, the fall 2013 lineup is a fun one that allows you to stay classic or go for a more modern look, depending on your preference. And if you like your nails to take on a theme, there are always these ghoulishly good Halloween-inspired ideas via Marie Claire.
