New York Fashion Week: Designers’ Premier Collective (Show Recap)

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center, NYC.

Showing at New York Fashion Week is kind of a big deal — no matter if you’re a big name or an indie designer. In fact, attending some of the runway shows and fashion presentations for up-and-coming designers can be even more refreshing because they’re working twice as hard to bring a new perspective to fashion while making a name for themselves.

Each season, the Designers’ Premier Collective held at the Helen Mills Theater in Manhattan showcases the best in independent fashion — from womens to menswear — bringing together a diverse crowd of bloggers, fashion insiders and even TV personalities. For Fall/Winter 2012, the designs of Staci Sherri, Mason Sylvester and Cheri Fashions worked the runway.

Staci Sherri’s ‘Time’ collection was inspired by “time, life expiration and incarceration” with an array of body-con dresses, jumpsuits and separates in color-block and mixed prints. The lone menswear designer, Mason Sylvester, found ancient Persian and military garments as his muse using a rustic color palette, texture, prints and patterns to convey his vision. Cheri Fashions ‘Shimmer and Glimmer’ collection was “inspired by the movement of animals found in their natural habitats throughout the winter nights.”
