When the news broke late last week that Target’s next designer collaboration would be with 3.1 Phillip Lim, one of the masters of minimalist chic, I nearly passed out. Well, not literally, but rather . . . was a “tad” bit dramatic on Twitter:

Lim is known for his use of a monochromatic tones and classic silhouettes. A girl can only hope that his 100-piece capsule collection with the mass retailer (which includes apparel, shoes and handbags) will bring that same element of downtown cool to everyday fashionistas without sacrificing quality. Some of Target’s most recent collabs with designers and high-end retailers, such as Jason Wu and Neiman Marcus, have been slammed online because of poor construction. And let’s be honest, as more of these diffusion lines pop up the prices seem to be getting higher and higher. So, if I’m going to pay $200 for a jacket from Tar-zhay, it better last a few seasons.

The designer’s first foray into the mass retail market will be priced at $19.99 to $299.99 for clothing and $19.99 to $59.99 for accessories. The line hits stores on September 15. And one thing is for sure, as someone who’s an avid online shopper and has yet to stand in a ridiculously long line just to get first dibs on deeply discounted designer duds — this just might be the diffusion line that breaks me!
