Holiday Beauty Looks

Ah, holiday parties. The gifts. The cheer. The awkward. (Ok, maybe that last one is just me). But really it all boils down to one thing: Glam! You’re already set on the fashion front. Here is what you need to make sure your beauty routine is on point as you navigate the holiday circuit.

Face

A slightly dewy look is perfect for the season. I like Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer, but if you’re looking for a bit more coverage Nars’ Radiant Cream Foundation and Dior Skin-Glowing foundation are both good options. Cover any blemishes with your favorite concealer.

Eyes

If you’re hitting up the office party, go for a subdued smoky eye, using a jewel tone like purple or navy. You’ll look festive, but not in a I-shook-the-tinsel-off-the-tree kind of way. Try Maybelline’s MasterSmoky Longwearing Shadow-Pencil in smouldering violet. Play it down slightly if you’re going for a bolder lip — opt for a medium brown shade or a warm taupe shadow. I like MAC’s Club, a brown shadow with golden green flecks

If you’re getting together with friends, you can be a bit more daring. Try gold on your lids (I’m a fan of this Stila trio) or spice things up with faux lashes.

Make sure you curl your lashes (if you think it won’t make a difference, visit this amazing tutorial from The Beauty Department.) Then, apply a volumizing mascara like Chanel’s Le Volume.

A look this glam deserves a bold brow, so put down the tweezers go over yours with a brow powder or gel like Benefit’s Gimme Brow. Dab a light metallic shadow or your favorite illuminator on your brow bone to highlight your face.

Cheeks

No need to go crazy here. Apply bronzer in a 3-shaped motion — start at your temples, swipe over your cheekbones and then graze your jawline to achieve a more contoured effect. MAC bronzing powder is always a good bet. If you’re partial to blush, try this rose gold shade from Sephora.

Lips

As with your eyes, what you do to your lips depends on the type of party you’re attending. Office soiree? Stick to a tinted balm or light gloss — I like Laura Mercier’s lip balm because it gives just a hint of color. Josie Maran’s argan oil-infused lipsticks are also great for an understated pop of color.

If you’re headed to a non-work related fete, this is the perfect time to use a bold color on your lips. Try a lively cranberry shade like this one from Bite Beauty. Or opt for a rich garnet like Nars’ satin lip pencil in Majella. If you’re a red(ish) lipstick newbie, check out these tips from expert Sunnie Brook.

Hair

The holidays offer the perfect time to experiment with your hair. Whether you embrace natural curls or opt for a sleeker look, you want to make sure your hairstyle complements your holiday makeup. Play it sweet and accentuate your hair with a headband, which works for both short and long hair. I’m coveting this star-themed one from Dauphines of New York.  If you want a sexier look, go with a sultry low ponytail.

Stay beautiful,
