"Fashion is what you want it to be!"

For Brooklyn, N.Y.-based jewelry designer Nora Daniel, keeping up with the next big thing in fashion and accessories is part of the job. But staying up on the latest trends — from graphic prints to Pantone’s color of the year — doesn’t mean her closet goes through an identity crisis each season.

Read on to learn more about what inspires Nora’s fashion sense. And to see her Myth Boutique jewelry line, go here.

What does style mean to you?

Style is an expression of self. True style evolves and is never stagnant, just as we all evolve. It doesn’t blindly follow trends, but is what looks good on you and accurately reflects your personality.

Describe your personal style in five words or less.

Funky, whimsical, feminine, colorful.

What influences your personal style?

Feminine touches like dresses, skirts, ruffles, florals and bright colors, as well as juxtaposition — combining those feminine  touches with something slightly edgier like a jacket or a tougher boot. Being plus-sized, it can sometimes be difficult to find things I absolutely love, so I tend to play up accessories. I love statement jewelry; brooches and pins do wonders for any outfit.

What does being a budget-savvy shopper mean to you?

Being a budget savvy shopper means searching for a good deal. For instance, saving for something of quality or waiting for it to go on sale, rather than just going for a version that may be cheaper, but doesn’t have the same staying power or value.

Online shopper or mall rat?

Online shopper!

Which stores do you shop at most often?

Torrid, Eshakti, Lucielu and Etsy

Choose one: Leopard print shoe booties, riding boots or gladiator-style heels?

Tough decision! I’m fighting with my love of shoe booties, the practicality of riding boots and the glam of gladiator heels — but maybe it’s the extreme cold temperatures talking… I’m going to go with the riding boots. They are practical and versatile and go great with dresses and skirts. Make mine a distressed brown.

If you could splurge on a single luxury fashion item or accessory, what would it be?

Real or imaginary? Real… probably a luxe, but practical bag like the Chloe Marcie Braided Hobo.  Imaginary… a custom-made pair of shoes whose design would change based on my moods and magically color-coordinate with or contrast-but-complement my outfits. Also, whenever I clicked my heels they would send me where I want to go.

Finish this statement: “Fashion is . . .”

What you want it to be!

The Stylish Vote: Olivia Palermo, Rachel Roy, Zoe Saldana

25 Jan

Gorgeous girls rocked some of the entertainment industry’s biggest events and were oh-so-fly: At the Ermenegildo Zegna’s runway show in Milan, Olivia Palermo’s look popped thanks to her choice of a tangerine blazer, plaid pants, gray tank and yellow suede shoes all by the designer.

Rachel Roy looked stunning in one of her own designs — an off-white, one-shoulder draped dress in winter white with vibrant accessories — to the “No Strings Attached” screening in NYC. Zoe Saldana partied it up in a sassy J. Mendel nude leather minidress with ruffle details and a shimmering clutch at the Audi and J. Mendel Golden Globes event.

**UPDATE** This poll is now closed. Olivia Palermo is the Stylin’ Chick of the Week.
