Everyday Stylin’: Celebrating Personal Style

28 Jun

How you choose to interpret a particular trend is what makes individual style. Be chic, be fashionable, be beautiful — by your own standards.

Meet Nikia, 30, a business analyst and blogger (at ChitownFashionista.com) from Chicago, Ill. She describes her personal style and fashion influences — from hip-hop culture to Chanel.

Everday Stylin': Celebrating Personal Style

"Fashion is only the first step."

What does style mean to you?

Style means having the ability to go beyond fashion to create a look that is uniquely you.

What inspires your fashion choices?
Everything from magazines and fashion blogs to street fashion and hip-hop.

Define being a budget-savvy shopper.
Being budget-savvy means mastering the concept of comparison shopping and/or thrifting.

Online shopper or mall rat?
Absolutely online shopper!

Which stores do you shop at most often?
I tend to shop at stores that have either a large selection that changes frequently or designer brands at a discount.  Some of my favorites are TJ Maxx, ASOS, Zara, TheOutnet.com and Dorothy Perkins.

Choose one: Gladiator sandals, platform wedges or oxfords?
Platform wedges. I need the extra height! LOL.

If you could splurge on a single luxury fashion or accessory item, what would it be?
Hmmm… this is a hard one since there are so many things on my current wishlist. If I had to make a decision, it would be a classic black Chanel 2.55 quilted handbag.

Finish this statement: “Fashion is…”
Fashion is only the first step. Personal style is what showcases your true personality and allows you to stand out from the rest.

Yeah! I’m so happy that you profiled Nikia for your Everyday Stylin’ feature. She hit the nail on the head when she stated that fashion is only the first step. I love when people mix varying pieces to flatter their figures and essentially develop their own personal styles. Too many people get caught up with looking like someone else, and they merely stifle their own creativity.

    Excellent interview!
