With a bevy of notable fashionistas making their mark in the Nation’s Capital — from First Lady Michelle Obama to Desiree Rogers — the city known for its conservative fashion scene is quietly becoming more style conscious.

A host of bloggers, magazines and designers have set up shop in efforts to help propel Washington to fashion capital status.

And for D.C. native and up-and-coming designer Tashia Senn, bringing style and glamour to her hometown is very important. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Senn told S&P that returning home to start-up her clothing line was the obvious choice: “I knew D.C. was a great market . . . New York is already so saturated with designers. There’s a need for it here — and I wanted to do it here.” With a support team consisting of her closest friends, family and business contacts based in the area, debuting in Washington was also a smart decision.

This past weekend, Senn hosted a preview of her fall 2010 collection at celebrity hairstylist and TV personality Ted Gibson’s D.C. salon. And one word sums up her sophomore effort: ladylike. Models oozed sophistication in frocks constructed with the urban fashionista in mind.

The collection featured pieces that every modern woman would want in her closet — from a striped sequin minidress (perfect for a night out with the girls) to a one-shoulder gray and black ombre cocktail dress to a silk shantung jumpsuit (talk about an attention-grabber).

With lots of look-at-me details — draping, exaggerated collars, bows and feather embellishments — the collection exuded femininity. Here are a few our favorite looks:
