Skin Is In: Fall Beauty 2009
It’s no secret that fashion and beauty go hand-in-hand. Recently, S&P teamed up with some top notch beauty bloggers for a tour of Washington, D.C.-area hot spots for all things glam. From skincare to make-up to hair, we’ve got the scoop on how to complement this season’s top trends.
A Fresh Start
Before applying make-up, a girl’s got to start with clean skin. We visited the Celadon Spa and met with JUARA Skincare’s co-founder, Yoshiko Roth-Hidalgo. The line is inspired by Indonesian botanicals and has been featured in ELLE and Lucky magazines.
When transitioning from summer to fall, Yoshiko suggests boosting skin hydration. ”As the seasons change, your skin changes from being more oily to more dry,” she adds, “use a hydrating toner that has skin-quenching ingredients like hyaluronic acid, and no oil. Your skin gets plenty to drink without any unnecessary heaviness.”
S&P Pick: Yoshiko sent us off with a bag full of goodies and here’s what stood out: JUARA’s Tiare Perfume Jasmine Oil – a light blend of jasmine, magnolia, vanilla and amber scents.
All Dolled Up
At the Red Door Spa at the Willard Hotel, we talked with Elizabeth Arden’s National Makeup Director Lindsay Ebbin.
Some of the top runway trends came from John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Armani, he said. “The makeup was about flawless, pale skin with rich red lips reminiscent of a Robert Palmer video from the ’80s.”
If choosing one or two must-have products, Lindsay says go for “an eyeliner in smokey black and a signature rich red lipstick in bordeaux tones.”
S&P Pick: Channel your inner vixen with Elizabeth Arden’s Color Intrigue Lipstick in Stop Traffic.
Hair-Raising Glamour
Every woman knows that hair is just as important as the clothes when putting together a fab look.
Celebrity hairstylist to the stars Ted Gibson recently opened up shop in Washington at the Hela Spa — bringing his NYC flair to the Nation’s Capitol.
We talked with Adrin Washington, a senior stylist at the salon, about hair do’s this season. “The hot hair trends for autumn are low-loop ponytails and red hair that’s bold and beautiful,” he said. If you’re more of a classic girl, however, hair that is straight and sleek is also a must.
For haircare, a balanced diet with plenty of water is key. Don’t forget to regularly deep condition your hair, and at night using a satin pillowcase is a plus, he adds.
S&P Pick: Before heading out, the friendly staff gave us hair treats to test out at home. For an instant style boost, try the Ted Gibson Hair Sheet Treatments. Made with a wild orchid complex of silk amino acids and vitamins A, B5 and E, one swipe will leave a dull ‘do looking refreshed.
