There are essentials that every girl should have in her closet. During the fall season, transitional outerwear is high on the list. Several popular trends include military, tailored, motorcycle and cocoon jackets for women. But finding affordable versions of the trendy rags that fill the pages of Vogue or InStyle, could have you pounding the pavement — from consignment shops to outlets.

When it comes to looking stylish, celebrities are common sources for inspiration. Keep in mind that many of them work with stylists — and money is no object . For those of us, however, who don’t have Andre Leon Talley or June Ambrose on speed dial, it takes creativity to replicate such chic looks at a fraction of the cost.

Check out Mary J. Blige during a performance at MTV’s New Year’s Masquerade 2008. With a belted, military-style trench coat, beret and aviator sunglasses, the queen of hip-hop soul scores major style points.

Her designer duds most likely carry a designer (i.e., “ching-ching”) price tag. But don’t let that deter you from trying to re-create this look.

It’s extremely do-able.
